Why technology matters, honestly
Dental technology is not magic, and we will never pretend a machine replaces careful clinical judgment. What good technology does is give your dentist clearer information, which means more accurate diagnoses, more conservative treatment plans, and fewer surprises. At Roanoke Dental Center we have invested in three core diagnostic tools, and each one earns its place in your care.
CBCT 3D imaging
Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) captures a three-dimensional image of your teeth, jawbone, nerve pathways, and sinuses in a single quick scan. A traditional X-ray flattens everything into two dimensions; a CBCT scan lets us see exactly how much bone is available, where nerves run, and how roots are positioned.

iTero digital scanning
If you have ever gagged through a tray of impression putty, the iTero scanner is the upgrade you have been waiting for. A small wand glides over your teeth and builds a precise digital 3D model in minutes. No goop, no trays, no do-overs.
We use iTero scans for Invisalign treatment, where the digital model lets you preview your projected results before you commit, and for restorative work that benefits from a precise digital model. Details are on our iTero scanning page.
Digital X-rays
Digital X-rays are the everyday workhorse of diagnosis. They use significantly less radiation than traditional film, appear on the screen instantly, and can be enlarged and enhanced so you can see what we see. When we point at the screen and walk you through the image, you are part of the diagnosis, not a bystander to it.
Our X-ray policy is simple: we take them only when clinically needed, and we explain the reason before we take any.
Technology at both offices
These tools serve patients at both of our Cave Spring locations, Electric Rd and Brambleton Ave. If your case calls for a scan that lives at one office, we will coordinate it within the same practice and the same patient record, no outside referrals needed for routine imaging.
