The Implant Program

Implant-Supported Dentures

For everyone who has ever skipped the steak, covered a laugh, or kept a tube of adhesive in every bathroom: dentures that snap in, stay put, and let you forget about them.

When your denture runs your day

Denture wearers rarely complain about the denture itself. They complain about the workarounds: cutting apples into slivers, ordering the pasta instead of the ribeye, pressing a tongue against the plate before a laugh, re-applying adhesive before every meal out. If that sounds familiar, the problem is not you, it is physics. A plate resting on gum tissue has nothing to hold onto, and the jawbone underneath shrinks a little every year, which is why the fit keeps getting worse.

Implant-supported dentures change the physics. A small number of dental implants, often just two to four per arch, give the denture something solid to snap onto. It stays in while you eat and talk, comes out for cleaning, and the implants themselves signal your jawbone to stay dense instead of resorbing.

What the treatment looks like here

  • Consultation and 3D scan: CBCT imaging at either Cave Spring office maps your bone in three dimensions so implant positions are planned before anything touches your mouth.
  • Implant placement: performed in-house by the same team, with nitrous oxide available if dental visits make you tense.
  • Healing and temporary: the implants integrate with your bone over a few months while you wear a temporary, so you are never without teeth.
  • The snap-in fitting: your denture, new or retrofitted, gets the attachments and clicks onto the implants. Most patients describe the first bite afterward as the moment it was all worth it.

Full arch, partial, upper, or lower

The approach works for complete upper or lower dentures and for partials. Lower dentures benefit most dramatically, they have the least suction to begin with, but implant support also lets an upper denture lose the palate-covering plate, which brings back the taste and temperature of food. If you are comparing your options from scratch, start with implants vs. dentures or ask us to walk you through both at a consultation.

Two offices, one team, honest answers

Implant consultations are available at both our Electric Rd and Brambleton Ave offices. Call 540-774-8288 (Electric Rd) or 540-774-3143 (Brambleton Ave), or book online any time. If an implant-supported denture is not the right call for your bone or your budget, we will say so and show you what is.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are implant-supported dentures?+

A full or partial denture that snaps onto a small number of dental implants instead of resting on your gums. The implants hold the denture firmly in place while you eat and speak, and the denture still comes out for cleaning. Most patients need as few as two to four implants per arch.

How are they different from traditional dentures?+

Traditional dentures rely on suction and adhesive, which is why they can slip when you laugh, click when you talk, and rule out foods like corn on the cob or a good steak. Implant-supported dentures anchor to posts in your jawbone, so they stay put, and the implants also slow the bone loss that makes regular dentures grow looser every year.

Can my current denture be converted?+

Sometimes. If your existing denture is in good shape, it can occasionally be retrofitted with snap attachments after the implants heal. More often a new denture designed for implant attachment gives a better long-term fit. We will tell you honestly which applies to you after an exam and 3D scan.

What does the process look like at Roanoke Dental Center?+

It starts with a consultation and a CBCT 3D scan, available at both Cave Spring offices, so we can measure your bone and plan implant positions precisely. Implants are placed, heal for a few months while you wear a temporary, and then your denture is fitted with the attachments. Every step happens with one team, no bouncing between specialist offices.

How do I clean an implant-supported denture?+

Snap it out, clean the denture like you always have, brush around the implant attachments, and snap it back in. No adhesive, no soaking your gums in cream. Your hygienist will walk you through the routine at your fitting.

How much do implant-supported dentures cost?+

It depends on how many implants you need and whether a new denture is part of the plan, so we quote after a consultation with 3D imaging rather than guessing over the phone. Insurance increasingly covers portions of implant treatment, CareCredit financing is available, and the Virginia Dental Club discount applies for members. See our cost of dental implants page for the full pricing conversation.
